UDF appoint Dr Chapola as Atupele running mate



The United Democratic Front (UDF) has taken on board Dr Godfrey Chapola as the party's running mate in the forthcoming elections.

Announcing the appointment in Lilongwe, UDF President Atupele Muluzi said Dr Chapola is a visionary man.

Muluzi who was accompanied by the party's Vice President Iqbar Omar, Lilian Patel and Kandi Padambo among other top officials said the criteria of selecting the candidate should be visionary, committed,
Plugged into what Malawians want and need, dedication and transformative.

He also said Dr Chapola is capable, committed to public service and transformational.

The UDF president said the rationale of the selection was on a business as usual basis and it was not a one man show but a collective way through the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Born on June 30, 1949, Dr Chapola holds a PHD in Agriculture from Florida, USA and has held numerous senior positions in government.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Chapola who was at loss of words said he is geared to take forwards the party's ideologies.

"I always take as serious business any issue that has got to do with the people. I have taken note that looking at the situation in the country, Malawi needs UDF to continue developing at the pace it was during the party's leadership," he said
