Makhirikhiri to spice up Easter Beach festival

Mizati Entertainment, the organizers of the annual Easter Beach
Festival which will be held at Kambiri Lodge in Salima from April 22
to 24, have roped in the Botswana traditional dance  group
Makhirikhiri to spice up the event.

The outfit will join the country’s  Lucious Banda and Zembani Band,
Ben Mankhamba and the Zigzaggers with Jenna Sisters, Edgar ndi Davis
and Skeffa Chimoto and Real Sounds band in entertaining the
multitudes.

In Mizati Entertainment Manager Costen Mapemba said Makhirikhiri will
perform on Friday from eight o’clock in the evening.

“I can confirm that we have agreed with Makhirikhiri to perform at
this festival, which aims at an intercultural platform which is very
rare in the country. We want it to be a complete family show with
diverse performances to give people the deserved Easter celebration.

“We decided to include them on the list of the performers as they have
a cultural heritage which they showcase through traditional songs and
dances which Malawian can learn one or two things,” said Mapemba.

In an earlier interview with this paper, Mapemba said this is the only
annual festival which brings entertainment to families as they
celebrate that Christ died to save their lives.

When quized how much he has spend on the festival, Mapemba said, "It
is difficult to come up with the actual figure as the is to celebrate
not to make profits. But all the artists who have signed contracts
will get 50 percent of the contract remuneration."

Other artists who will perfom at the festival are Maskal, Mizati Band,
Maziko Band, Mwambo Theatre, Dan Lufan and Gule Wamkulu dance.

"There will also be beach games like football, netball and volleyball.
We have also included jumping castle to cater for the kids to make it
a complete familly feast," said Mapemba.

The festival is being held with the partenership of Afrimusic, Fattan
Offset printers, Alexander Hotels and Costen Clearing among others.

Entry to the festival is K2000 per person a day.
