This seems to be an unlikely time to go for fishing in the vast-blue and freshly waters of Lake Malawi. The very hot sand gives no room for those many barefooted Chisekele villagers to go near the shores of the lake in the afternoon hours during this summer season.

Homosexuals barred from adopting children in Malawi

The Malawi's Special Law Commission has barred homosexuals from adopting children, according to recommendations in the report released by the special commission which was entitled to review the Adoption of Children Act.

Tracing Lufeyo Dzombe, one of the long time musicians


Lufeyo Dzombe is not a new name on the local music circles. It dates back to the 90s and then reached the heights in 2002 when he released a hit album, ‘Malawi for sale’ which came second from Mlaka Maliro’s Maloto in sales with over 75 000 copies.
After releasing his fourth album titled ‘Kwacha’ in 2006, the musician in Dzombe vanished, attracting questions if he has decided to hang up the microphones for something else.

Over 60 acts lined up for this year’s Lake of Stars festival

Over 60 acts are expected to perform at this year’s Lake of Stars
festival from across all the artistic genres, according to the press
statement of the organisers.


The festival will see the local artists such as the reggae power house
The Black Missionaries, Lucius Banda, Maskal and Skefa Chimoto rubbing shoulders with international musicians in the name of the United

Theater is a gold mine-Mama G

The visiting Nigerian movie actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known in the acting industry as Mama G, said theater is a gold mine for countries which is yet to be exploited.

Speaking to the press in Lilongwe upon her arrival, Ozokwor said if the industry is well established and supported, it can employ a lot of idle youths and professional workers thereby uplifting the lives of many people in the society.

Malawi government to start new ART/PMTCT guidelines in July

The Ministry of Health will start implementing the new ART and
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) guidelines which
were recommended in 2010 by the World Health Organization (WHO) inresource limited countries, Deputy Director for HIV and AIDS in the
ministry Austin Nthambala has disclosed
Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Nthambala said the
recommendations were based on current research evidence and aim at increasing access to quality ART and PMTCT services.

Kamuzu’s Nyasaland bail-out, his leadership and Malawians voice their views


A Chewa born in Kasungu around the late 19th century, Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda left Nyasaland at a tender age after discontent with education offered in the country.

He went to Zimbabwe and South Africa where he picked up jobs at plantations and gold mines respectively before he bounded for United States of America to further his education.

Whilst there, he attended tertially education at Merharry and Chicago Universities for medical doctorate degree before he practiced medicine in Britain and Kumasi, Ghana. It was while in Brtain where he indulged in active politics as he used to finance the Nyasaland Africa Congress (NAC) and together with Harry Nkumbula wrote a memorandum against the Federation of Central Africa.

German boosts Blantyre Arts Festiva with 4000 Euros

The Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) has received a financial boost from
the German Embassy which handed over a cheque worthy 4000 Euros (about
K94 0000)

German Ambassador to Malawi Rainer Müller said they felt it possible
to sponsor the festival which accomodates almost all forms of art like
music, theatre, dance and spoken word.

Done deal! Sean Kingston coming to Malawi



After a long time full of expectations, doubts and perhaps wondering
if the Beautiful girls singer will indeed perform in the country, the
gods have final smiled at the hungry citizens as the two parties have
finally sealed the deal.

Both Heartbeatz Entertainment Shaffique Maru and Musicians Assnciation
of Malawi (MAM) president Costen Mapemba disclosed to the Guardian
Newpaper that the hosts have finally payed the perfomance fee.

Makhirikhiri to spice up Easter Beach festival


Mizati Entertainment, the organizers of the annual Easter Beach
Festival which will be held at Kambiri Lodge in Salima from April 22
to 24, have roped in the Botswana traditional dance  group
Makhirikhiri to spice up the event.


The outfit will join the country’s  Lucious Banda and Zembani Band,
Ben Mankhamba and the Zigzaggers with Jenna Sisters, Edgar ndi Davis
and Skeffa Chimoto and Real Sounds band in entertaining the
multitudes.

Homosexuals should be beheaded- Malawi religious leaders

Malawi religious leaders have stood firm against homosexuals saying the relationships are evil and punishable by beheading.

The leaders were speaking on the sidelines of an Annual General meeting of the Malawi Interfaith AIDS Association (MIAA) in Lilongwe on Tuesday which is aimed at sharing experiences, success stories and best practices in HIV and AIDS in order to improve the response of the faith community towards the pandemic.

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) Secretary General Sheikh Imran Sharif Mohamed said there is no way they can cooperate gays and lesbians in the community as it is against their doctrine.

A JOURNEY INTO THIS WORLD—MY STORY

This is home. Where my experience of this world started from. This is where all who have been there when situations were to destroy me resides. This is home.

As I stand at this depot-Guilleme bus depot in Mchinji… memories of my past flood my mind. To east, just a little bit far from here, is Kochilira Hosipital where this young man was an infant 25 years ago. Just a few kilometers from there, Mbingwa Primary school is the source of my better understanding of this language.
